Pure aluminum, food-safe lacquer:
the only material with zero gas permeability.
Below 9µm, pinhole risk rises sharply. 18µm is the shelf-stable default.
Aluminum foil is the only food packaging material with literally zero gas permeability. Below 9µm thickness, statistical pinhole density rises sharply — for shelf-stable applications, never spec under 9µm without explicit pinhole test data. For more on foil spec, see our aluminum foil material guide.
What buyers ask before placing an order.
Do you sell finished foil wrap or only roll stock?
Both. This page covers roll stock for converters and in-house operations. For finished pre-cut + lacquered + embossed wraps ready for your line, see our chocolate aluminium foil page.
What's the minimum order on roll stock?
1 metric ton is our practical minimum for new accounts — roughly 600 m² at 18µm or 1,400 m² at 7µm. Below this, lead time and per-kg cost both spike. For pilot orders, we can refer you to slit-roll suppliers we partner with at the 100kg–500kg range.
Recycled-content foil — really food-safe?
Yes. PCR (post-consumer recycled) aluminum is FDA-approved for direct food contact when manufactured to FDA's letter-of-non-objection process. Our PCR foil comes from EU and US suppliers with full certification chain. The 30% PCR baseline has no measurable performance difference vs virgin; 100% PCR has slightly lower clarity and ~5% lower tensile strength but is still food-safe.
Why does lacquer matter so much?
Pure aluminum reacts with acidic, salty, and dairy foods (visible as black spots if you wrap a cut lemon overnight). The lacquer is the food-contact safety layer required by FDA 21 CFR 175.300 and EU 10/2011. It also improves ink adhesion for converters that print on the foil downstream. Lacquer-free aluminum should never touch food.
How tight is the slit tolerance?
±0.5mm on our standard slitting line for web widths up to 1,500mm. Tighter tolerances (±0.3mm) available for high-speed packaging lines that need exact register — adds 5% to per-ton cost and 3 days lead time.
Custom temper or finish?
Soft-temper annealed foil is the default for converters; H18 hard temper is available for embossing operations (the harder foil holds emboss patterns more crisply). Two-bright surface finish (both sides reflective) available for premium gift-wrap applications. Specify at quote stage.
